The saab 900 (known now as the saab 900 classic) was first produced in 1979 to replace the saab 99. The saab 900 classics we see for sale are normally around 1990-1993, but there were many many different editions before this time. For more information on these models click below.

The models we will talk about in this section are the saab 900 classic from about 1989-1993 and the saab 900 new shape 1994-1998.

The classic saab 900 was available available in 3 door, 5 door, coupe, saloon and convertible body styles.

The engine options were as follows-

• 2.0 injection
• 2.0 light pressure turbo
• 2.0 full pressure turbo

The 2.0 injection was the most common engine and the LPT's engine we see very few of now. The full pressure turbo are also still available.

The classic 900 has become somewhat legendary within the saab world, and quite rightly so, a very well designed and engineered saab set the benchmark for what many saabs have been compared to.

The classics came with a number of different options ranging from heated seats to air conditioning. Some of the the early models did not have electric windows, but nearly all the classic saabs had a automatic heated drivers seat.

Saab made a few special editions in the classic range. Below are details of these models-

• Saab 900 jubilee edition which sported a whale tail spoiler (similar to the Porsche 911), individually numbered gear knobs and steering wheel to commemorate saabs 50th anniversary. We see very few of these offered for sale now and are becoming even rarer. 
• Saab 900 classic ruby edition, this is really a stunning model, coupe with saabs special leather vented seats, full pressure turbo, obviously only available in ruby red, only available in the UK, Very few available for sale.
• Saab 900 carlsson our personal favourite less than 200 of these were produced and only available in the UK market. These coupes boasted 185 BHP turbo engine with full bodykit and whale tale spoiler, pin striping with erikcarlsson name etched in the rear quarter panel. Stunning saabs and very very rare.

Moving on to the new shape saab 900 produced from 1994-1998 was an updated version of the saab classic 900, saab changed the whole look of the 900 which is also represented in the saab 93, more options and engine sizes were available and many more colour options. The use of S and SE spec along with XS were used to differentiate between the models.

The choice of engine and models are as follows-

• Saab 900 S 2.0 injection
• Saab 900 SE/XS 2.0 injection
• Saab 900 S 2.3 injection
• Saab 900 SE 2.3 injection
• Saab 900 S 2.0 turbo
• Saab 900 SE 2.0 turbo
• Saab 900 S 2.5 V6
• Saab 900 SE 2.5 V6

The saab models above were available in 3 door, 5 door, convertible and coupe. Also they were all available (with the exception of the V6 series which were all automatic) are available in manual transmission or automatic transmission. Saab did produce a sensonic gearbox which was essentially a manual saab without the clutch, very similar the citimatic fiat. This model was only produced in 1994/1995 and only with the turbo engine.

SAAB 900 SENSONIC TURBO

The specification for the models works much the same as the saab 9-5 and saab 9-3 with the SE/SX and S models, although leather was not so common as standard on the saab 900's as it was on the 9-5's, but it was more prominent on the later years 1996/97/98. 

Saab did not produce an aero model in the new shape 900's but did focus on a limited edition model called the saabtalladega. We have sold quite a few saab 900 talladega's and are still quite readily available. They were called talladega to celebrate the great test at the talladegaracecourse in the USA featuring the saab 9000's.

SAAB TALLADEGA

The saab 900 talladega had a number of different options including limited edition saab 900 alloy wheels and body styling with colour coded wing mirrors. The leather options (as not all talladegas came with leather) were very different, with the 2 tone leather interior which looks stunning.

The saab 900 has become very popular over the years, a bit of a shame that saab never produced the aero in this range but a lot of the saab turbo engines had been blessed with a saabhirsh upgrade or abbott tuning.
